It just keeps raining cats and dogs (but mainly dogs)

Flaming June has given way to an even hotter July ............ in Spain, Italy and Greece.
But for the UK, April showers have continued and just got heavier.

The top photograph was taken pre walk and is of a few raindrops hanging from my garage door !
But I can't get miserable having such a lovely group of dogs staying.

Tilly, the black Cocker Spaniel has returned home now, but not before enjoying a complete variety of walks and smells ! Only she knows what the wonders of this hole were, but looking at her face - and body - it was worth it.

Meanwhile Chester appears to have some H20 in his eyes - not surprising as he never seems to be out of the stuff.
This big friendly dog is like an elephant in a couple of ways - able to find water anywhere and once found, loves nothing more than rolling about in the stuff. This morning he found a muddy puddle, sat in it before deciding it was large enough to lay down in ......... then, once supine, chose to have a complete roll in the stuff, face and all ! I just stood and laughed but stopped short of giving him a hug !!

My next post will include Scott the Dalmation, who so far has eluded my camera - lucky dog!

Summertime .............. English style
Chester appears to have splashed himself
One happy dog
I even walk half a dog
And Tilly as she really is, looking a little tired and dirty

Meet a Serra da Estrela Mountain dog

This morning I met Bluto, a 7mth old Serra da Estrela mountain dog. Seven months and still growing ! He came for my sheep chasing course, but ended up leaving without every seeing a fluffy white creature. Instead, he left with more respect for his owner than when he first arrived. Seeing this young but powerful dog climb out of the car, oblivious to his owner, showed me he had no regard for him whatsoever. On the basis that no successful training will happen unless there is respect, I went about showing the owner how to achieve this. Once he'd mastered it, he left to practice the lesson in his home environment. But this won't be the last I see of Bluto - don't forget, I still have to make him know what he can and can't do when confronted by sheep. Janet

The Italian Connection - Harry the Spinone

Let me introduce you to Harry, an Italian Spinone. Harry arrived yesterday for a day's "try out", prior to any long term boarding. He's as gentle as he looks and those eyes .... ! Janet

Fran Ardley the Gun Dog Trainer

While Rachel is a trainer and partner in Cumbria Dog Training, my other daughter is a professional in gun dog trainer. Fran has been training dogs for owners from all over  the UK, as well as being asked to judge dogs in in the very male world of trialling. Not bad for a young lady still in her 20's ! Paul's six month old Working Cocker Spaniel Ella loves riding in the cars. She has tremendous spring in her skinny legs and gets into the back of the Hilux with little effort. It's a different story when it's time to leave. She's been trained never to jump out but to be patient and wait for her owner to pick her up, thereby preventing injuries ..... and vets bills !! When are we going to be there Dad ? Boarding dogs Charlie and his brother Alfie are staying with me for a few days, and as can be seen, a ball is something that creates a real bond. These two young dogs are lovely characters. Is this the cool way to carry a ball ? Scarlett, a yo
