End of term for Merlin

The stay of my little Australian Labradoodle guest is coming to an end. Merlin has one full day left before being collected on Saturday and I make no bones about it - I shall miss him !

Merlin has certainly brought out the emotions in me !

The early days of him trying to assert his authority are long gone, as are those moments when I would find he'd been copying the Andrex advert, with toilet roll everywhere and an innocent looking face staring at me !

The satisfaction I felt seeing his behaviour change for the better is just one of the reasons I love my work so much.
Do I get things right first time? No, of course not. Different dogs present different problems and because of that, my approach to training is anything but "one size fits all".

I hope you like the latest pics that Paul took - he seems to love getting images of Merlin wet and dirty! But believe me, he'll look a little different when he's lucky owners get to see him again on Saturday.

The Italian Connection - Harry the Spinone

Let me introduce you to Harry, an Italian Spinone. Harry arrived yesterday for a day's "try out", prior to any long term boarding. He's as gentle as he looks and those eyes .... ! Janet

"Come on Chief, smile !!"

"Come on Chief, smile !!" That look from 9 mth old Chief tells me I'm lucky to take even one photograph of him ! Chief is just one dog who has stayed with me since the New Year, either for boarding or residential training. Nearly all can be seen on my Cumbria Dog Training Facebook page, and with a husband who is more than cabaple Peanut enjoys the fells. Meet Nala, a beautiful Portuguese Water Dog, who, at 7 mths old is still displaying alot of puppy traits. She's staying for a 24 hr try out and has fitted in really well. I'm pleased to be able to say that Peanut is staying with me again. This young Cocker is such a lovely girl who makes herself right at home and gets on so well with everyone, both people and dogs. And finally, time for my own girls !

The Czechoslovakian Wolfdog

Over the years I've worked with most breeds, from Akitas and Rottweilers through to Chihuahuas and Yorkshire Terriers. Now I can mention another breed - a Czechslovakian Wolfdog. Meet Kyra, who I'm just beginning to train. As these are early days, the long line is still required to prevent her running off but this is only for short term use until I know with complete confidence that she will respond to the recall. Talking with Kyra's owner Not a common sight in the English Countryside On a different note, Paul was contacted at the start of the week by the Farmers Guardian, asking to use his very powerful photograph from one of my sheep chasing lessons. It features on the "Sheep" page on my website and previously featured in an article on me last year. The dog featured is a Presa Canario x Rottweiler. And I can honestly say that no sheep was bitten or harmed. An all too common sight caused by thoughtless owners But to finish off, let me introduce y...
