I’m Still Here !

Don’t let my absence from the blog give you the impression that my feet are up and I’m having a rest from the dog world. Far from it !
I’ve been busy helping with sheep chasing dogs, basic training and home visits for behaviour problems.
A week ago I spent three hours with a lovely lady and her Collie who live close to beautiful Coniston. A short drive compared to Sunday, when I went  further afield – to Huddersfield !
Poppy, a dog I’d had stay recently for a month, had returned to some of her old ways for her owner and was starting to make life difficult again.
It was lovely to see how Poppy responded to me when we met again. And of course her attitude was one of  “what else would you like me to do for you Janet ? “ !.
By the time I left things had greatly improved. Poppy was respecting her owner and it was a real pleasure to see V. with much more confidence – something that has since been confirmed in an email that tells me everything is going to be great for both of them.
No photos this time but get ready for some of Barney - with his deadly swiping tail ! - and 5 mth old Lucy, who we've rather taken to our hearts for her gutsy attitude ! (Look out Honey)

The Italian Connection - Harry the Spinone

Let me introduce you to Harry, an Italian Spinone. Harry arrived yesterday for a day's "try out", prior to any long term boarding. He's as gentle as he looks and those eyes .... ! Janet

"Come on Chief, smile !!"

"Come on Chief, smile !!" That look from 9 mth old Chief tells me I'm lucky to take even one photograph of him ! Chief is just one dog who has stayed with me since the New Year, either for boarding or residential training. Nearly all can be seen on my Cumbria Dog Training Facebook page, and with a husband who is more than cabaple Peanut enjoys the fells. Meet Nala, a beautiful Portuguese Water Dog, who, at 7 mths old is still displaying alot of puppy traits. She's staying for a 24 hr try out and has fitted in really well. I'm pleased to be able to say that Peanut is staying with me again. This young Cocker is such a lovely girl who makes herself right at home and gets on so well with everyone, both people and dogs. And finally, time for my own girls !

The Czechoslovakian Wolfdog

Over the years I've worked with most breeds, from Akitas and Rottweilers through to Chihuahuas and Yorkshire Terriers. Now I can mention another breed - a Czechslovakian Wolfdog. Meet Kyra, who I'm just beginning to train. As these are early days, the long line is still required to prevent her running off but this is only for short term use until I know with complete confidence that she will respond to the recall. Talking with Kyra's owner Not a common sight in the English Countryside On a different note, Paul was contacted at the start of the week by the Farmers Guardian, asking to use his very powerful photograph from one of my sheep chasing lessons. It features on the "Sheep" page on my website and previously featured in an article on me last year. The dog featured is a Presa Canario x Rottweiler. And I can honestly say that no sheep was bitten or harmed. An all too common sight caused by thoughtless owners But to finish off, let me introduce y...
